Netizens react to “Produce 101” trainee’s M! Countdown stage

Produce 101 trainees took the stage together for the very first time at the recently broadcast M! Countdown aired on December 17th.

The Mnet produced trainee competition is the very first to be held at such a large scale with 101 female trainees from 46 different domestic agencies taking part.

Following the airing of the nearly 4 minute performance in which trainees sang the DJ Koo produced track “PICK ME,” netizens have reacted to the stage with some comparing them to the popular Japanese girl group AKB48 (original roster 48, currently has a count of 127). On the other hand, some showed their worries at how 101 female trainees will fight for the chance to be recognized by the public among 100 others.

Produce 101 will begin airing in January 2016.

  • Wow…it must be hell trying to rehearse…
  • I thought it was akb48 and watched they were all pretty good.
  • Even akb48 only put 16 people on small stages and tv shows but all 101 came out ㅋㅋㅋ
  • I’m both sad and excited. Sad for the 90 girls that will go home but excited for a new group to debut…
  • This is worse than akb ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
  • I thought they were lying about the program when they said group of 101 girls but guess not ㅋㅋㅋ
