BTS Reveal Their Unique Definition Of “Songs Of The Summer”

“Butter” is definitely our song of the summer!

Every year, there’s one pop song that seems to just dominate the airwaves and charts during the summertime. In 2019, it was without a doubt Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road.” And, who can forget “Despacito (Remix)” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber in 2017?

BTS‘s “Butter” seems to have officially become the song of the summer for this year! It is the longest-leading hit of 2021 , after all, according to Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the chart!

But, what exactly entails being a “song of the summer?” In a new interview with TIME, BTS revealed how they have strived to create their summer tracks “Butter” and “Permission to Dance.” Rapper Suga also gave his own definition of what “songs of the summer” mean.

What we call songs of the summer are usually tunes that feel like a cool breeze, easy listening songs.

J-Hope chimed in, “For ‘songs of the summer,’ you need ‘Butter!'” We definitely agree! Our summer playlist wouldn’t be complete without “Butter” and, now, of course, “Permission to Dance.”

If anything else entails in being a “song of the summer,” it’s perhaps the song’s ability to make someone dance! “Old Town Road,” “Despacito,” and “Butter” may not have a lot in common, but they all are songs that get you on your feet! Jin said the focus for “Permission to Dance” and “Butter” was to “focus on sharing energy and joy.” As a result, they incorporated fun dance moves to go along with the upbeat sound.

Do you think “Butter” is officially the “song of the summer?”
