The most highly anticipated competition for figure skating is here! The 2022 Beijing Olympics introduced many new faces to Korea’s top male skater, Cha Jun Hwan, the athlete who is currently stealing hearts all over the world.
Many of his photos and videos are quickly going viral in Korean and international online communities. Whether it’s taking off his jacket…

…or watching other skaters perform, everyone’s eyes were drawn to him.
Netizens commended his “idol-like” visuals and charisma. They called him “refreshing” and said it felt like they were watching a youth K-Drama whenever they looked at him.

His symmetrical features and youthful charms unsurprisingly showed up perfectly on camera.
Of course, his appeal translated well to commercials and broadcasts even off the ice! He’s no stranger to the Korean entertainment side of things, appearing in shows like King of Masked Singer and Video Star.
Besides his good looks, Jun Hwan’s talent has also been the topic of praise. He was famous in figure skating circles even before joining the senior events, making history with the highest combined total score in the junior level and being the youngest among them to land a quad salchow (four rotations), all in the 2016 Junior Grand Prix Japan.
He’s also a six-time Korean national figure skating champion and the winner of the 2022 Four Continents Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.
Jun Hwan began the Beijing Olympics individual event on a high note with a near-flawless performance, placing fourth in the Short Program and easily qualifying for the Free Skate where he secured a new personal best score of 182.87.
It was his second time participating in the quadrennial event after placing 15th in Pyeongchang 2018, the youngest competitor in the men’s event at only 16 years of age.
This time around in Beijing 2022, he placed 5th with a total score of 282.38, just after Yuzuru Hanyu, Shoma Uno, Kagiyama Yuma, and Nathan Chen.
Congratulations, Jun Hwan!
