IU boycotts all 2015 music award shows

The end-of-the-year music award shows are some of the most look forward to events for fans as they can not only see their bias awarded for their hard work from the past year but interaction between artists are experienced at an all time high.

So it was extremely shocking when LOEN Tree‘s top artist and soloist IU announced that she would be boycotting all music award shows this year despite having experienced success in her latest album release, CHAT-SHIRE, achieving an all-kill for her title track “Twenty Three.”

However, since the release of the album, she has undergone several controversies including a misinterpreting the book My Sweet Orange Tree for her self-written track “Zezé” as well as the sexual illlustration of the child on her album jacket cover. Additionally, she has been accused for illegally sampling a Britney Spears song and is said to be following a lolicon concept in her album.

Days after the allegation broke, IU has since responded to the accusations.

Despite undoubtedly being one of the Top 10 artists in term of digital sales this year, IU has decided to boycott all award shows.

Fans of IU may have first noticed her absence from the recently completed event of the 2015 MelOn Music Awards held at the beginning of the month. But of course, her track “Twenty-Three” was also released during the aggregated period. However, her track “Heart” published during her appearance in the drama Producers was released in May, which also hit various all-kills and topped digital charts.

With the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) set to take place in Hong Kong on December 2nd, IU will also be missing that major event. Currently, she is running in first place in term of fan votes for ‘Best Female Artist’ with 27.7%.

The next major award show would be the Golden Disk Awards, one of the longest running music show awards in Korea, which seems she will also be boycotting.

The reason given for the boycott is that IU would prefer to communicate with her fans through a more personal setting such as fan meets, concerts, and other activities as opposed to broadcasts and award shows, also wanting to continue her offline activities.

But Ilgan Sports also cites one incident that is unknown to many that occurred last year at the 2014 MAMA.

The media portal reveals that at least year’s event, IU was given three songs to sing on stage, singing her hit song “Friday.” She also partook in the Shin Hae Chul memorial stage, singing his hit track “Fly, Chick.” IU later took the stage again with Seo Tai Ji for their hit collaboration track “Sogyeokdong.”

However, IU was only awarded two awards that night including “Most Popular Vocalist” and “Best Female Artist.”

According to some music officials, this created turmoil as IU’s representatives argued with MAMA producers as they had expected more than two awards that night.

One official said, ” Everyone in the k-pop industry knows that IU’s side threw a fit that day. A lot of people even witnessed the commotion. Since then, IU has not been taking part in any award ceremonies.”

[+4463, -544]  Boycott my ass ㅋㅋㅋㅋ what is this a one man demonstration? ㅋ  IU is simply a product of Melon (They used to promote her albums like crazy on their home page). She debuted with her balad concept and it didn’t work so she went on to her Lolita concept. She was very well marketed protected by the market even through scandals and multiple plagiarism controversies.
