Jay Park Slams President Trump’s Racist Rhetoric

“In a time when we all need to come together and work as one, he is creating even more racial tension and divide…”

Korean American rapper Jay Park shared a statement he made regarding President Trump’s racist rhetoric toward Asian Americans.

In my opinion a president is a leader, and a leader is accountable and should take responsibility for his people. As the United States president, he should be worrying about the safety of the American people. Americans come in the form of all different ethnicities, and that includes Asian Americans.

The statement, which was initially released through Billboard and republished through NextShark, a leading Asian news portal, condemned the president for using the term “Chinese virus” in lieu of its correct name “COVID-19”.

In an already tense and crazy situation where Asian American people are being targeted or attacked just for the fact that they are Asian, the fact that the President of the United States — who has all the power an influence with all the media attention in the world — would come out in public and call COVID-19 a ‘Chinese virus’ is irresponsible and disgusting.

In his post on Instagram, Jay Park explained that he was asked for the statement and encouraged everyone to be safe and take care of each other.

Earlier this year, the rapper made headlines for an incident involving UFC‘s Brian Ortega.
