9 K-Pop Albums And Three Songs Were Just Awarded Brand New Gaon Certifications

Congratulations to all of these artists!

Every month, Gaon Charts announces new certifications for K-Pop albums and songs that have reached certain numbers of sales, downloads, or streams. These are always huge achievements for artists, and are worth congratulating when they’re announced!

For the album category, an album will receive a platinum certification at 250k sales, double platinum at 500k sales, triple platinum at 750k sales, and a million certification at one million sales (as well as double, triple, etc. for multiple-million sales).

For songs, there are two categories: Downloads and streaming. For downloads, a song will earn platinum at 2.5 million downloads, double platinum at 5 million downloads, triple at 7.5 million downloads, and diamond at 10 million downloads. For streaming, a platinum certification is awarded at 100 million streams, and a billion certification at a billion streams.

On July 12, Gaon awarded new certifications to 9 K-Pop albums and 3 songs!

Four of these albums have received the platinum certification, meaning that they have surpassed 250,000 physical sales. The first of these albums is Stray Kids‘ album Clé 1 : MIROH! Released on March 25, 2019 as the group’s fourth EP, it now has sold approximately 251.5k total units.

Next in the platinum category is IU‘s Love Poem album, which she came out with on November 18, 2019. With a title track of the same name, the album is her fifth EP, and has also surpassed that 250k sales mark!

Third to earn platinum this month is rookie group TREASURE‘s second single album released on September 18, 2020, The First Step: Chapter Two. This is a huge accomplishment for such a young group, as they debuted just over a year ago on August 7, 2020!

The last album to be awarded a platinum certification this August is MONSTA X‘s most recent album, One of a Kind. Released just a couple months ago on June 1, 2021, the album has actually surpassed 350,000 sales, 100k more than it needed to earn this certification!

One album has earned a double platinum certification this month: TWICE‘s Taste of Love, which came out on June 11 this year. This most recent album from the girl group has sold around 540,000 total units, earning them the double platinum title!

Two albums have received a triple platinum certification this month as well! The first is TXT‘s latest album, The Chaos Chapter: Freeze. Released on May 31 this year, it has sold over 800,000 copies so far, and is well on its way to earning a million certification in the future!

The other album that has now been triple platinum certified is NCT DREAM‘s recently repackaged album, Hello Future. It was released not long ago on June 28, 2021, and it has done remarkably well for a repackaged album to surpass the necessary 750k sales!

Finally, two albums have amazingly earned the million certification this August. The first is EXO‘s most recent, long-awaited comeback album, Don’t Fight The Feeling. No one should be surprised to hear that it has sold about 1.3 million units since it came out on June 7 this year!

The second million certified album for August is SEVENTEEN‘s June 18 release, Your Choice. This group has taken off so much in the last couple of years, and this latest EP of theirs has sold about 1.47 million copies!

When it comes to singles, three songs have been platinum certified for streaming this month, two of which are K-Pop and one that isn’t! The three songs to have reached that 100 million streams mark in South Korea are “Lovesick Girls” by BLACKPINK, “Celebrity” by IU, and “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa!

Congratulations to all the artists who earned new certifications this month!
