3 K-Pop Idols Have Just Received High Praise For Their Military Service

These men have done their country proud!

On December 28, the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) in South Korea released the names of 3 K-Pop idols who they say have shown exemplary behavior and attitude while performing their military service.

Idols have sometimes been criticized for potentially being given special treatment or easier roles due to their celebrity status, but whether or not that’s true, these men have proven that K-Pop idols are more than capable of making their country proud through their time spent enlisted.

The first idol the MMA mentioned is SHINee‘s Minho.

His service lasted from April 2019 until November of this year, where he was enlisted in the Marine Corps.

Even though Minho was given the option to be discharged without returning to his base after his last vacation during his service, he ended up returning to the Marine Corps anyway to finish his final days in training.

He was also spoken of highly by his superiors for his bright personality, as well as his exemplary service despite joining at a relatively older age.

The second idol to be praised was BTOB‘s Sungjae.

He enlisted in May of this year and is still currently in the middle of his service. Sungjae is part of the military band, and received a lot of positive attention for taking part in MMA’s “Proud Military” challenge, which was a campaign to promote safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. EXO‘s D.O. also took part in this challenge.

Sungjae’s service end date is set for November 2021.

And finally, the third K-Pop idol who the MMA gave high praise to was 2PM‘s Chansung.

Chansung began his military enlistment in June 2019, and is serving as an assistant instructor for the 5th Infantry Division located in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province.

While he was enlisted, the idol ended up donating 50 million KRW (~$46,000 USD) to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Administration, which aids families in recovering financially from the coronavirus pandemic as well as helps with prevention of the disease spreading.

These three men have proven that K-Pop idols can certainly show incredible behavior and selflessness during the difficult enlistment period, and hopefully they can help serve as great examples for fellow soldiers, idols and non-idols alike!
