Meiqi And Xuanyi Disbands From Rocket Girls To Focus On Cosmic Girls

Their agency explained their decision.

Cosmic GirlsMeiqi and Xuanyi recently won 1st and 2nd place on the Chinese version of Produce 101. They were set to debut with the 11-member team Rocket Girls, when Starship Entertainment (Cosmic Girls’ agency) and Tencent (Rocket Girls’ agency) released conflicting statements about the girls’ careers.

Starship Entertainment insisted that Meiqi and Xuanyi will promote simultaneously with both Cosmic Girls and Rocket Girls, but Tencent announced that the girls will solely promote with Rocket Girls for 2 years.

Yuehua Entertainment, who is in a partnership with Starship Entertainment, announced that Meiqi and Xuanyi will be pulled out from Rocket Girls to solely focus on Cosmic Girls’ promotions.

“Meiqi and Sunyi’s team Cosmic Girls requested that they be able to promote simultaneously, but was ultimately denied.”

Yuehua Entertainment came to the conclusion that it was unhealthy for Meiqi and Xuanyi to promote for both groups, and decided to pull them out from Rocket Girls.

“We could not force the artists to fulfill an irrational schedule that could possibly lead to psychological stress and physical harm.”

— Yuehua Entertainment

They also reiterated that the original contract agreed that Meiqi and Xuanyi will be able to promote in both groups should they debut under Rocket Girls, but Tencent had suddenly broken their agreement.

It appears Meiqi and Xuanyi will be focusing solely on their comeback with Cosmic Girls set to release near the end of 2018.
