Yoo Byung Jae Openly Disses YG Entertainment During His Comedy Show

“YG is a pharmacy.”

The comedian/screenwriter Yoo Byung Jae has made a comeback with his stand-up comedy show, B’s Joke.

B’s Joke will be broadcast internationally through Netflix. He performed his first stand-up comedy show Black Comedy in August 2017.

He touched upon various controversial topics during the hour-and-a-half show and didn’t fail to shed his personal opinions about his label YG Entertainment.

He had apparently been criticized before for not dissing YG Entertainment in his previous shows.

In response to this criticism, Yoo Byung Jae used his new show to express his frustration. He openly commented on the drug controversies that the agency’s artists were involved in and made a joke out of it.

“Honestly, I feel that it is really unfair. YG is a pharmacy. They were the ones doing the drugs but I was the one receiving criticism. They’re feeling good and I’m feeling terrible.” ㅡ Yoo Bung Jae

He also did not hesitate to talk about issues regarding feminism and the political climate, issues that can cause huge controversies just by mentioning them.

“During this important time [where political leaders’ pasts are being uncovered by the #MeToo movement], it’s upsetting to see other keywords besides the #MeToo movement rank first as search keywords. I wish Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee will date at home, and the residents of Dasan City receive their packages* so that the #MeToo movement will move up in search ranks again.” — Yoo Byung Jae

*The residents of Dasan City became a hot topic at the time for demanding that delivery men park their trucks outside of their apartment complex and walk inside by foot to avoid accidentally running over children.

These issues, however, were not brought up just for the sake of being funny. It appears that he wanted to explain the concept of “hasty generalization” and “boundaries of extreme hatred”.

Yoo Byung Jae wanted to express just how dangerous blind and extreme hatred towards “different people” can be only after seeing just a portion of the person’s life.

Meanwhile, some netizens have been taking the show differently and have clearly expressed their disappointment.

  • “I’m so disappointed..Feminism is not male ilbe. Feminism is not a topic of humor.”

  • “I went to go see Yoo Byung Jae’s B’s Joke  on Saturday. I enjoy his jokes and he seemed attractive and so despite the My Mister controversy, I thought he would put on a really good show. But I was so shocked and disappointed at his performance yesterday. Starting from the first topic, I was so shocked that I couldn’t laugh throughout the show. The women sitting next to me (not my acquaintances) were also sitting there stiff without even clapping. Through the entire show, we couldn’t laugh or clap and just spend a very uncomfortable and scary time.”

  • “He can’t even differentiate between satire and mockery what is he thinking evaluating the society like thatㅋㅋIt’s just terrible and dirty”
